Hello, Friends, welcome! It is so good to have you here.
‘Glam-steading’ is a term my husband and I affectionately use to describe our ever-evolving way of life – living in a modern suburban setting while living naturally off the land more and more each passing year. We were inspired by the term ‘glamping’ (i.e. glamorous camping). Instead of camping, we added ‘glam’ to ‘homesteading’ and voila! Glam-steading!
The truth is, most – if not all – of us enjoy some conveniences of modern life. A furnace to heat our home in the winter, electricity to power our lights and appliances, and indoor plumbing to name a few. The reality is most of us don’t want to live the romanticized harsh life of living in a rudimentary cabin in the woods or eking an existence out of an empty plot of land. The good news is, you can live a life of modern conveniences AND live a simpler, more natural lifestyle by making small changes that best suit you. Armed with a little knowledge and an appreciation for the abundance of nature around you, you can live an enriched life!
A few months ago, I watched an episode of a cooking show. One of the chefs cooked almost exclusively with herbs and vegetables foraged from the streets and parks of his city. I was so impressed at his resourcefulness. His story was a true testament to being able to embrace the glam-steading lifestyle, even when living in a big city. This blog will be a space for me to share pearls of joy and personal experience with you as I too learn to live richly from nature’s abundance.

For me, my developing interest in natural living has grown and evolved over many years. While completing graduate school in a large urban center, I discovered a tiny grocery store selling organic produce that was almost too ripe to be eaten but sold for pennies on the dollar. As a poor frugal student, how could I say no?? I began teaching myself how to process food in large batches, freezing or dehydrating as much as I could for later. My housemate later introduced me to the local farmer’s market, and I was hooked! From then on, I faithfully went every Saturday until I eventually moved away from the city. I loved greeting the farmers each week, chatting about their crops, what vegetables would be in season the following weeks, then getting home with my precious haul of organic veggies and dreaming up meals to make with them. Now, several years later, I am happily married and blessed to call this small plot of suburban land home. My husband and I have caught the glam-steading bug together and are loving it. It seems that not a day goes by that we don’t learn something new to try or put into practice! Pull up a chair to my table and let’s enjoy walking together on this glam-steading journey 😊
